The Sunken Gardens. My friend’s & I used to lie out here after a Summer’s Eve at the Union watching the stars ‘cloudhopping’! I tried studying out here a few times but my papers kept blowing over, I got a sun headache or was horribly distracted by a language student trying to play football in green speedos (not a good distraction!😲😣😳) Heriot Watt Virtual Instawalk (Taken with instagram)

Heriot Watt Virtual Instawalk - I never did work out what this wee building was for! It is on the way to the library. It’s most likely left over from the Stately Home Days! Could be a detatched wine cellar? A wee jail for trespassers or poachers? Gamekeepers hoose? Answers on a postcard please? (Taken with instagram)

Heriot Watt Virtual Instawalk. The boardwalk over the loch between the union and residences. Again, in my day, there was no type of barrier at all on the left hand side (that’s right, the loch side) of the walk. And there was no anti-slip surface either! Especially hazardous when ratted coming back from union or when icy, or both! (Taken with instagram)

Heriot Watt Virtual Instawalk. The Loch. Campus Urban Legend said that the outflow from the Biochem Lab went into here & that you would have to have your stomache pumped if you fell in! In my day they made falling in a fair possibility. (see next pic) (Taken with instagram)

Heriot Watt Virtual Instawalk. I was once hissed at by one of the swans on Riccarton campus. I was giving this one a very wide berth which is why the pic’s not as sharp as it could be! (Taken with instagram)

Heriot Watt Virtual Instawalk! This statue appeared during my years at Riccarton. We called it the Phallic Whale for obvious reasons! It’s actually calledA Stone for the Whales This sculpture made of Kilkenny limestone, of a whale and calf leaping from the waves, was also created by Stanley Wilson, and placed here in 1994.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ (Taken with instagram)

Heriot Watt Virtual Instawalk. Watt a Clever Cow Capturing the hearts and imaginations of millions worldwide, CowParade travels to exciting cities around the globe. In 2006, the City of Edinburgh was delighted to take part and host its largest ever public art exhibition for charity. For three months visitors to the city could follow the Cow Trail through its buildings, streets and public places, experiencing the creativity and passion of the Edinburgh artistic community. Heriot-Watt was delighted to join in the experience and our cow, Watt a Clever Cow, designed by staff and students in the School of Textiles and Design happily grazed in Edinburgh’s Festival Square. Our sponsored cow now lives on campus for all to enjoy. (Taken with instagram)

My Virtual Instawalk of Heriot Watt continues! James Watt was a Scottish inventor and mechanical engineer whose improvements to the Newcomen steam engine were fundamental to the changes brought by the Industrial Revolution in both his native Great Britain and the rest of the world. In my day this statue of him wore shades & held a can of Irn Bru! He’s looking a bit boring these days! (Taken with instagram)

My Virtual Instawalk round Heriot-Watt, Riccarton Campus! This is the main entrance! Unfortunately, the time of day meant I had to shoot this straight into the sun! The stained glass window by Shona McInnes was commissioned for the James Watt Centre which opened in 1990 (1year before I was a Fresher). (Taken with instagram)
